"This is basically part one of a trilogy I wrote a few years back. It was a very trying time in my life and I was conflicted emotionally about a lot of things, the biggest being my relationship at the time. 5 is basically a song about finding some things out about someone that are not so desirable and then trying to see past it. It's also about the conflicting feelings of "hey nobody's perfect, so why should this bother me?" That being said, I feel that the listener has the responsibility of making the song be whatever they want it to be. I remember coming up with that riff late one night. It was one of the only times that the music actually wrote the words. It's so heavy and the lyrics just had to be as heavy. It really was written start to finish in about 5 minutes.
